I have framed my second story deck using 2 X lumber at 16" on centers. The deck is 45' " X 12'. I am using 5.5" X 16' trex boards. I thought I would use a simple horizontal pattern Is there a formula or software that will tell me the ideal cutting plan to minimize waste and ensure that the butt joints are staggered?

I think Power tools like a "power miter box" will make the cutting of the boards at the right angle quick and easy, this is a power tool that can usually be hired from a tool rental center or bought at a home improvement store.
