Hi everyone, I just joined the forum and had a question about deck hardware. I'm rebuilding my deck, new footers and everything up. I've been reading about how corrosive the new acq pressure treatment is to galvanized metal, and how stainless straps, post bases, etc are suggested for wet environments. That would be great, except I can't find them anywhere. For my location, western Pennslyvania, the minimum recommended by simpson and others is zmax or some other triple galvanized coating.

I've been reading that a barrier membrane, like Grace Vycor Deck Protector can help by preventing the metal from coming in contact with the ACQ chemicals, but all of the articles i've found are older (2006-2008). Is this still a recommended practice, or are they finding that with the newer ACQ formulations and actual exposure rather than accelerated lab exposure that this is overkill?

Anyone?

I purchased all of my stainless online. While stainless isn't cheap I was concerned with the way that galvanized fasteners don't react well with ACQ and deteriorate over time. Also since my decking and railing are cedar I didn't want the black stains that come with using galvanized fasteners in cedar.

These are two of the places I purchased my stainless fasteners from. But, do shop around because prices can vary alot.
