Hi there if anyone can help my husband .he built a garage with no permit. someone was selling there house and was upset that this construction was going on,so they called it in to the city and complained .the city bylaw showed up and told him he needed to fix the post that go into the ground . he used the [metal things] sorry dont know the name of them . that you use to make a fence to do his corners and attach his walls to.The bylaw officer wants him to fix this .with digging 6 feet down and pouring concrete . but he want my husband to hand in a detailed picture to them how to fix this problem how do we do this??? could someone please help thankyou his wife..:eek::(
 
Your inspector wants a footing to be deeper than any frost can be in your area. some times a footing isn't required and you can just rent one of the augers dig a hole slide in a cardboard tube and fill it with concrete. You use a post saddle with a tail to set in the concrete. If a footing is required you have to dig a much bigger hole and poor a square box full of concrete at the bottom of the tube. This would be done to spead the weight load. Ask the inspector to make clear what he needs. After you have prepared the hole and you are ready to pour concrete. he will want to see it first.
