Hello! I am trying to install a new front handle but I'm having an issue. When I tighten the 2 screws (circled in red) the thumb handle becomes very tight and will not 'release' back. I then have to loosen the screws and it goes back to normal. With the screws this loose, the door handle will be wobbly. What should I do?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Hi there,
Sounds like you have a misalignment of the three parts.
You want to make sure that the spindle and alignment shafts
are going through their spaces in the latch mechanism without binding.

I agree that you don't want the face screws to be loose but you
can back off the two screws that hold the latchbolt in place just
a half turn without causing a problem. That might free up the mechanism.

What type of lock do you have?...Looks like maybe Weslock?
