I just had a deck built on my house and the notched rail posts will not pass inspection. The local code here does not allow notched posts but the inspector said I may be able to use some type of bracket to reinforce. I'm looking for ideas to brace/reinforce the posts that will not ruin the esthetics of the deck. Here are a couple photos of one of the posts. Does anyone have any experience with this or ideas for me to fix? Thanks.
