How expensive and hard would it be to install a new wood burni fireplace into a house that doesn't have the vents or chimney? We would want to put into the basement and does anyone have any idea how much this would cost. It's a one story house.

Far too many variables to come up with an accurate estimate. Best approach is to get an on-site quote from a local contractor who specializes in such work. You can specify to him/her exactly what you want.

I'd suggest you be sitting down when he presents his number to you. The shock might cause your head to spin.

Judging by the non-reply, the shock was pretty high.
For 1 story house it will most likely cost you 100% more for the chimney than the cost of installing the fireplace itself.

Thanks for the respond. I think we're going to try to find a house with one already. By the sounds of t it would be costly

No problem. Don't forget the option of a gas / electric fireplace insert.
