Moen 1394 Diverter Install Issue

The Moen 1394 Diverter is extremely long and my deep 1 inch socket isn't long enough to accommodate the length of it (the diverter extends through the end of the deep socket). It would be a tight fit to get a wrench on it and I'll probably drop it into the dark unknown

How have you folks removed the Moen 1394 Diverter?

You need a tool that looks like this or make one out of an old socket and a piece of pipe and a welder.
