Default filling in a crack

art work

I have some very pretty wood with great character

i want to cover the wood with a see thru acrylic ?

something that will fill in the cracks but be see thru.

something along the lines of polyurethane ? but poly will not fill the cracks.

do i need a epoxy ?

help me out here.

Specific and directed multiple applications of polyurethane will fill the cracks as will water white lacquer.

Why not use a grain filler or shellac sticks ?
