Repairing wall damage

So we had this old wet bar area in this house we just bought and it has some damage all along the bottom. Pic below. I plan on just using some wood siding to hide the gaps between the wall and the stone piece they used, but was wondering about the front corners. What would be the best way to go about repairing that area? Just throw some mud in there to fill it in and let it harden, then sand and paint?

Gross! Assuming you want a cosmetic fix, not a serious re-do ... yes, you can fill the messy gap (although I doubt it will be all that clean. Here is what we use for good filler:

This is what I would use. You need to make sure you tool it smooth before it gets too hard. Works great for filling holes and such.
I also like that it's in a powder form so 6 months from now you won't have a dried out container of spackle.

For problems like that I've used a scratch coat of Dash Patch or equivalent, followed by spackling, sanding, priming, and painting.

Re and re the whole area, fix it right the first time, there is likely ugly things behind that and there are people here to guide you.

Looks like there is metal corner bead on the OS corners that has come loose to begin with.Filling these gaps along the edge of it will not hold up.The bead needs to be taken off and replaced correctly.Cut the OS leading edge around the stone to make it fit right.The gaps above the stone can be filled with some Durabond or water putty if you want to go the quick and easy route or covered with some trim and caulked.

How big is the stone piece? If it's not too big, you may want to pull it off and set it back in on a fresh base. Have you found the reason for the damage, and has it been repaired?
