I took a short break to go out and water my vegetables and pull a couple of weeds in the front flower bed this morning. As I'm pulling weeds in the liriope plants I spy out of the corner of my eye a copperhead about 3 inches away from my bare hand. Fortunately, he was heading away from to a hole under the sidewalk. That hole saved him a serious case of steel poisoning right behind his head. Case noted, need to make sure the dog stays out of that flower bed.
Ah, summer - time to garden - crikey!

That would worry me a bit.
I was away for the weekend, and the snake had an opportunity to move. He didn't take it and met the pointy business end of a shovel. If I could have relocated him I would have, I've done it in the past.
Here is a recent story on copperheads here. One lady had 17 killed in her yard in one day.
