Hi.

I have a 10 years old 2 story home in Pittsburgh. My question is when I checked attic insulation and found 6-7 inches evenly spread blown-in insulation. But I heard from someone in my neighbor told me this should be enough insulation. I searched and studied found at least 19 inches of insulation on attic which should be R-49 is required. I checked temperature 1st and 2nd floor had 3-4 degree different. Do I need a more insulation or this should be enough.

Thanks in advance.

So, I still need to lay more insulation. Then from the insulation fact seet I need R49 19inches. I am thinking put R30 which is 9 1/2 inch thick so combine together will be 7+9 1/2 will be 16 1/2. Do I need more insulation to make 19 inches or will be OK or need put more 2 1/2 inches?

Thats a good start. Keep an eye on how fast the snow melts off the roof, don't forget to make sure you don't block the vents from the sofets
