We have had very cold temperatures here lately, and I was talking with a lady who said she had natural gas HVAC, and due to the cold temperatures, her water drain pipe freezes on her unit, and she has to work with it every few hours to make sure it doesn't freeze up and stop the heat from working. She acted as though the drainage was a normal thing, but I had no clue what she was talking about.
Apparently, there is a tube that drains water to the outside. She said her parents had the same thing, but they were able to pull their drain in a basement window during winter, so it didn't freeze. My package unit has no such thing. It has a tube that discharges water in the summer when the air conditioner is being used, but nothing while heating.
Is what she is talking about a normal thing? I'm still scratching my head.
