Our 20 year old Masonite lap siding (on second story only) and soffit must be well cleaned before re-painting. A number of years ago I unwisely allowed vines to grow up the siding and along the soffit. Upon clearing off the vines many of their "grabbers" remained stuck. We were told by a siding salesman excess high pressure washing, scraping and or wire brushing to remove the remanents of the vines may deface/destroy the old Masonite lap siding. We are hoping a professional painter may provide alternative cleaning methods. Also, if this old Masonite facing is so fragile will high quality re-painting (SW Superpaint) and chauliking ensure the sidings future very long term life.

If the vines have been off the soffits for a while now, they will often times be pretty well dried out and easily removable with a good wiping/brushing.
 
To late now, but the better plan is to cut the stems and let it dry for a few month before removing, more suckers come with it.
Wait a month for these things to dry up and wash the wall with warm soappy water and a soft brush

The vines were removed years ago. Just those stubborn dried up suckers remain.
