My wife and I recently built a cape cod style home with the upstairs unfinished. I plan to finish the upstairs soon. My biggest concern is getting hvac zoned correctly. I have the shoot to get the hvac upstairs I'm just not sure if I can zone the upstairs separately or if I need a separate furnace for upstairs. Would anyone know the proper and most efficient way to do this. The downstairs is 1500 sq/ft. The upstairs will be another 1000 sq/ft. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

You could rent some room heaters to get an idea of how many upstairs BTUH you need to maintain X degrees F indoors while the nighttime temp is Y F.

Real numbers make contractors/suppliers sit up and pay attention. It enhances your credibility.
