I'm adding a mudroom in the garage area and I need to get heating there. The problem is the new mudroom is below grade and so I would have to create a couple of 4 or 6" holes in the top row of cinder blocks in the foundation to get the vents from the furnace to that room.

Would this be ok to do or would my house fall down :eek:?

If not, I think my only other option is radiant heating from the floor...

ok, thanks for the response.

I've looked everywhere on the web for some guidance on some sort of guidelines but I have not found a single thing.

Is there some sort of guidelines or code like there is for studs and joists? (IE: can't make a hole in the 1st 2" of the top/bottom of a joist. etc)
 
Hi If you just make holes for duct work I wouldn't think it would be a problem. The advice I would give is not to cut any joists or the sill plate. The wood will spread out the load. I am an amateur so if an expert says I'm wrong I probably am. Just my 2 cents and experience. good luck
