I am building a deck with an Ipe wood surface. i am curious of the drawbacks about using using pressure treated wood as a sub-structure. if there are any.
The deck will only be about 2 feet off the ground an it will be floating. We are not attaching it to the house.
The measurements are 18'x16'
Thanks

Ipe wood has the durability and strength of teak, for a lot less money. Ipe hardwood is also a tough wood to finish. Its extreme density prevents most finishes such as wood stain or top coat, from getting through the surface.

Ipe is a very strong timber, a softwood substructure is fine, but you need good long screws in case the ipe wants to move, and so appropriately deep softwood joists. The only other risk of using softwood joists, is that the Ipe will last a lot longer. However the joists will be semi protected, and wetted on where the treatment envelop is strongest.
