I will soon be gutting the bat and installing a new tub and surround. I plan to use cement board and have heard differing views on waterproofing.
- none needed
- use a membrane behind the cement board (does this make sense or encase the cement board in a moisture barrier on both sides)
- use a coating (WaterTite, RedGard) on the cement board prior to applying mortar & tile.
Which is the best and proper way to go for the long run?
Thanks

I would consider Schluter's Kerdi system to be about the best one out there.
I would also recommend visiting John Bridge Tile Your World he wrote the book on this system. Probably one of the best tile resources on the net.
