Yesterday AM I was cutting the lawn and when I got to within about 4 feet from what I now know is a rabbit den, 4 baby bunnies came flying out and ran for cover. I had seen the hole before and had cut right over it, but since there are many like it from chipmunks, I thought nothing of it. It is a small hole in the ground and I wonder how they fit. Will they come back to the den or are they gone for good? I'd like to fill in the hole and reseed but will certainly wait if needed. Any advice would be most appreciated.

It appears that they have not returned. From the size and speed of them, they may well have been ready to leave the nest anyway. This is the second year that den has been used. I'm going to fill it up half way with sand, then another quarter way with sand and mortar mix, with the last quarter top soil. They're welcome anywhere else in the yard but not the front lawn.
