Need help in determining the source of the meandering stain patterns on the garage concrete floor. The patterns are fairly uniform in thickness, are black/grey in color and are not following any visible cracks in the concrete. For the most part they are continuous in their coverage along the floor, but at times we see separated sections. Using a wire brush on the stains does not eliminate them. Any help or insight would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the site. Just some questions.
How old is the concrete? Have you owned it since new?
Could it be an old stain that was cleaned from the surface?
Anywhere near where the car is parked?

Looks identical to when I would drag my old roll-away across the floor when it had a bad wheel.

Might be a stock market graph that fell off some paper.........

But seriously folks... some questions. Is the black mark the stain or some kind of line drawn to mark the stain? If it is the line, is it always that well defined? My eye was drawn to the darker gray at the bottom of the pic, which looks like moisture - possibly wicking up through the concrete.

Looks like it was the result of one bad wheel on a dolly of some sort under weight. The wheel just spun on it's vertical axis but didn't roll on it's horizontal axis.

Probably one your kids practicing his artwork with a sharpie. You posted it at the wrong perspective. Rotate it 90 degrees ccw.

The concrete is around 60 years old, and we have owned it for the last 22 years. This is a new stain appearing within the last half year. There has been no cleaning of the concrete beyond periodically sweeping it several times a year. A car is parked there, but the stain pattern is only close to the car's rear bumper (the car has been well maintained and is in good shape - no signs of leaks or mechanical problems).

20 years is a long time, but it must be in the concrete from before your time, but maybe ground water pressure is higher this winter or something.

Snow, salt or other contaminants dripping from the car?
