My kitchen faucet seems to lack pressure. Every time you turn it on it makes a knocking noise like there's air in the pipes. Sometimes it won't even turn on for a bit and has trouble switching back from the spray nozzle. It is an old faucet but didn't always do this. Do I need to replace the faucet or is something else causing this?

Actually the faucet may NOT be your problem. Has it been working properly in the past? Did this problem seem to just start recently?

Your problem might be your water pressure regulator. When these start to go bad (happens about every 10 years) houses develop "water hammer" from nowhere, faucets lose pressure, dishwashers don't clean well ...

This "good old boy" gives you a basic lesson in testing pressure and the regulator:

Good luck! :D
