I have been researching cheap heat, and low cost cooking

have been looking at rocket stoves, and how they work. being a little ocd

researching is not good enough, i have to make it to see if it really works as they say.

started out with a pile of cinder blocks, and fire bricks, i spent a few hours placing brick in the configuration i wanted
finally settled on this
next, in installed a divider for the fire box/fuel
then mudded the whole thing

ok, whats the reason for a rocket stove?
it uses very little fuel, is very efficient
if your into self survival, off the grid kind of stuff
prepping, whatever you want to call it
you can cook with this, just using twigs you pick up around your camp
i made a pot of stew, in a CI dutch oven. perfict

next, i will build a 150 gallon propane tank rocket stove heater that will heat a shop for free
. thanks for looking!!!!!!!!

I keep enough material around to build a small one as part of my post hurricane preparedness, for when the propane is running low. Looking at the rocket stove mass heaters, If I was in a colder climate I would build one of these. Fortunately, I've only needed to run my heat about 10 hours over the last 4 winters.
For anyone else...here's some info.

thats kinda my idea, but with out the mass

my idea is, a 150 gallon tank standing up. long ways

with a 6" sch 40 steel 90 degree offset in the tank. at 18" off the floor. protruding out the tank

the other end, stops 6" from the top, inside the tank.

a 4" vent opening on the bottom. piped outside

feed the fire, heats the tank, heats room with radiant heat

btw, that link. nice looking units,

here is one a buddy of mine got ahold of
this is great for the back of your truck, very portable

it is 3" box channel,

What about converting an old gas water heater, it already has a tank with the flue running through it. Peel off the shell and insulation. Just a thought.

not a bad idea, actually a good idea

you know, the stove would make a great fish or meat smoker

I have a 200 gallon tank at my mountain house I don't need anymore, you want it?
