What percentage more brink is used with a diag. herringbone vs. a basketweave or straight-lay?

The rule of thumb is 7 bricks per square foot. With good planning (using both ends of the bricks cut on 45*).

Coverage is the same not matter what angle you lay the bricks. Only possible extra usage is on the ends where they need to be cut. Labour cost may be higher though.
