I was up in the attic and found a ceiling joist (2x8x17) that has a cracked near the knot.
I noticed a pair was done with a sister joist about 5 ft long with nails only. I added more nails but think I might want to add 2 bolts/washers near the end going through the two joists. Maybe insert a plate on the side. My brother is a machinist so I can basically have him built any type of support.
The location used to be a box overhang the cabinets so I think it added more weight.
