My new recliner makes a lot of noise when I let the footrest down. The noise is caused by the ratchet mechanism. Of course, the insulation cannot interfere with the works so I'm hoping to suspend the insulation above and below the mechanism. Have a look at the photo and please share your thoughts.

The sound is most likely transmitted thru the feet to the floor. Add some stick on felt furniture pads and see if it helps.
 
Have you tried to figure out which are the guilty noise makers.
Yes. After wrapping most of the works with insulation, secured with zip ties, there is about 95% noise reduction when evaluating. Going down noise is reduced about 10%. I think I know where the clang originates. More tests may confirm. Then I will have to develop a way to isolate the monster clang. Oh, with the insulation naturally shedding it will have to be wrapped with something. Plus I plan to seal the bottom with a layer of insulation covered on the bottom light cloth.
