This may be a stupid question, but here it goes. When I bought my house, I also bought the lot next door that the previous homeowner owned. He had built a shop on the extra lot. His wife got sick so he wasn't able to completely finish it. He had temporarily run an extension cord to the shop for power. I would like to put electricity out there so that it can be used as a shop rather than a junk house. Would an electrician be able to get power from the panel at my house, or would I have to get the electric company to run a line to the building and have a separate panel in the shop?

What's the distance to the shop?
What's the distance to the power pole?

How much power do you need in the shop? How many amps is the service in the house? How much power does the house use? List all the electric device like water heater, range, HVAC, etc.
