Hello,

Recently my wife backed our car into a mailbox while picking up our kid from a music lesson. The following week, when I was doing the drop off, the teacher told me that they had gotten someone to repair it, and the cost was $100. There was no damage to our car, and there didn't seem to be much damage to the mailbox or the stand. My wife did say that the stand was pushed over and uprooted from the ground.

I would greatly appreciate the opinion of the forum as to whether, this repair cost is realistic and honest. I have posted a picture of the mailbox as it stands today.

Many thanks.

Depending the median income in your area (see the Zipskinny site) this may be OK. $50k/yr is a good US average.

I've had customers insist on giving me $100 for callback repairs that I insisted were free, because they were callbacks and so I felt they should be free because they were my fault.
. . .But. . .my ZIP shows $114K median income.

considering the landscaping which had to be moved and replaced and the time required that's probably a fair price. I would have done it myself.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Looks like a good bit of work and effort. Wonder if they set it deep in concrete or just plain ol' ground?

I would probably charge that to set a mailbox, figure travel time, bag of quickcrete, time to pick up materials, gas, then dig the hole, level the box. Lot more to it than just sticking some poles in the ground. I don't think it was out of line.

So...are you going to take this out of your wifes allowance? ;)

Poor mike. can't get anyone to agree with him.
Things have gotten completely out of hand at the "other forum" over 50 posts and growing. So far Mike has been sued, imprisoned, lynched, among other things, worst of all, subjected to atrocious puns. Kinda creepy in fact.
Only 7 posts here, pretty pathetic posting percentage performance, wouldn't you say Joe? Say, what was your name in the states?

it's kind of wordy but that is the legal profession for you.

You wanta see wordy, Google "Mailbox Mishap" Mike got same answers there, then he tried to argue, that's when fun started.

HAHA. John, you need to get a life. You are pathetic. there is more to life than internet porn and lurking on home improvement message boards.

To clarify, I didn't try to argue with anyone. I simply stated my opinion on why I thought the request for $100 was out of line. The lady told me she had some one repair it, but it looks like all that was done was it was put back into the ground.

Just spend a few dollars for driving lessons for her so she does not drive over the curb and hit something that was visible. I assume she knew about it when she hit it or admit it to you.

Several times, after multiple responders told you it wasn't. And we already told you lady doesn't have to repair it. If she is damaged to tune of $100, that's what you pay.

So how much did you pay the lady? Was outcome amicable?

i have a life, its been a good one. Trying to educate a few people on realities of life has been part of it. One of the things i try to convey, based on experience, is don't make assumptions about other people's life without information about it. And don't call people names.

There's porn on the internet? How'd that happen? Somebody should do something about that. Ahh, why bother, its not part of my life. i won't make assumptions about yours.

Well, I guess i better go do something useful, bring about world peace or see if the mail's come. Lurk on some forum, see if I can convince some body to feel sorry for me for this pathetic life I lead.
