You may want to check around with some others who have had decks built. Check their quality of work and ask about the price per square foot.
You could also look at the advertisements in the local paper, talk to 3 or more of them and ask them for references and where you can see their work.
Decide what you would want in your deck and try to get 3 bids on the work. Be sure you spell out your specifications completely.
