I was just curious if any of you have used the Feng Shui method of decorating, and if so, is it practical, logical, time consuming?

And is this what an Interior Designer can do?

Thanks,

I think it all depends on how much you bellieve. I have a freind that bought a home and they had a freind of the family Fung Shei specialist come in. He told them that the way and direction the home was situated was bad. A year later they were divorced. They as far as I knew were a very happy family before they bought the home.

YMMV

I've seen a lot of it. Some is more relaxing:) . Some is down right ugly (and expensive:mad: )! Like any design work, make certain you check references and see a lot of before/after pictures before you sign a contract! As a general rule, people have too much stuff going on -- we forget we have FIVE senses -- so clear out the room and add back a little at a time. It may change the entire feel/look of a space and cost you very little;) !!

And I guess that is what I would believe more, is that clutter can drive us crazy, so to "clear" a room, then add back a few items, is the best (for me).

We don't tend to collect things, so our space is more open. And I feel better when I wake up and the house is "clean" without too much cleaning.

Open spaces makes me feel better than closed (I guess that is why we always knock down walls in the houses we buy - to open up the space.)

As a Chinese guy, I think it is fine for basic design but then again any culture can tell you if something looks or feels right. I think it's overboard when you get into the mystical crap. In a faux Asian accent, "Oh, spiral staircase case bad, like snake bad luck for you." Or, "mirror there bad, reflect your wealth out the door." Gimme a break.

As for that divorce, maybe it was because they didn't communicate or respect each others' needs. But then again, it could have been the bad feng shui of where the toilet was located. LOL! On a serious note, people buy a new house hoping that will bring them together or fix things when it's just the same occupants living there.
