Water line code?

So I work in a tree care/landscaping business(a family run I'm a son of the owner) and a client is having us put a water line from his garage to his back yard or something like that, I have to get the exact details tomorrow, I know it has to be buried about 26-30 inches in Kentucky, but other than that I'm not sure on, does it need a gravel base? Stuff like that, also do I need to get a permit to do this?

A little sand under and over would protect it from rock damage. The depth is below the yearly frost depth, a quick call to the city permit dept. would get you depth and permit requirments.

Gravel? Not unless you'd like to invite a puncture someday. I lay a bed of sand for water, gas or electrical. Depth is set by freeze line ... City has that code. Minimum is typically 18" in temperate regions but not KY (too cold).
