A primer is not adequate for use exposed to the weather. Unless it was accepted and ordered/purchased with a specific coating, it is you to you to apply something in your choice of colors and degree of permanence.
Usually, a good door can be bought with different finishes inside and outside.

Make sure you paint not only the door fronts, but all the edges also. Top, bottom and sides.
