We are having cedar impressions siding installed on our house in driftwood gray. It is a 56 yr. old ranch style house with a small 3 step front porch with two columns and a dormer. We live near the water and are working to get a "beachhouse" look to our home. The concrete porch has some holes and we want to replace it, but we are spinning with opinions from people as to whether to go with flagstone or wood. Do we have the concrete removed first or just the top layer? I like the look of old-fashioned wood porches that are either stained or painted, maybe with the white risers, but we've been told we should use pressure treated wood (which will look more like a deck than a refined porch), and others have said only use pt for the supports and use mahogany for the top layer. The porch is only semi protected from the elements and does get a lot of early sun. We are willing to maintain the porch but would like to get this right. Meanwhile the siding guys are pushing us to hurry, because they say that the porch has to go in before the siding. Is IPE a good product, OR should we go with a manmade material, such as Azek, Fiberon, etc. etc. Help!!
