I am pulling Cat6 low voltage wiring through my finished home. I accidentally drilled a 1/2" hole through the top plate and just below a stud.

The home is two stories plus a basement. I drilled from the basement to the first floor on an exterior wall. There are two stacked top plate 2x4s. I measured the hole depth at 3" so if I hit the stud it should only be by a small amount.

Should I be worried about structure support?

If so, what can I do to remedy the situation? I am trying to avoid ripping up any flooring, if possible.

Thanks.

No problem. It's done all the time to run wires.. continue on. :D

Thanks, inspectorD.

That's what I thought. I am a bit paranoid and searched the Internet enough to worry myself into a corner.

Takes a lot more than one hole to compromise structure. You should see what plumbers do and SOMEHOW get away with it! :D

If you base it on just measuring the depth of a hole, I would go 3.5" to be sure. There's no issue with doing it.
