Hello all.
Trying to identify this packing/insulation in the void between the brick and panelling in my house constructed in 1971. Looks like wool (see pic)

I'd like to remove or trim back before repainting the family room. Would appreciate info on what it is, safety of removing, cutting, etc.

Thanks much in advance.

Looks like standard pink insulation to me. It's been there there for a while and is dirty.

you can run a knife over the edge of the brick to cut the insulation; or you might be able to use a thin shim or something similar to shove it back under the brick. Either way, I'd like to see some kind of sealer under there to contain the insulation and make the area waterproof. Some kind of silicone or concrete caulk.
