Default How to build a deck attached to your house

Before starting building a deck, check drainage and grading in your house where the deck is being planned to be built. If found, fix these problems. Try not to disturb the soil where the deck footings will go because the footings need to set in composed soil to prevent settling.

Set the ledger against the house wall or any other solid structure and properly attach it with lag screw. Remember, this must be done against a flat surface. Moreover, flashing should be installed between wood and house part.

Mark the foundation with a line, mark the footing and then post locations. Cast concrete footings in the ground and then attach the concrete piers on top of these footings to hold the posts. Let the footings cure for at least a week or ten days.

Cut a post longer than the required length and then set it in the post anchor on top of a pier. Set the post in place and secure. Once this is done, nail any beams in place and then attach any necessary bracing. Add joist hangers and fasten the joists in position. You can add any required blocking for stability.

Cut the decking boards to the correct length and lay them across the joists. Fasten boards to the deck with nails or screws. Add spacing between the boards if necessary. Add any railings and stairways to the deck.

Your basic structure of deck is ready. Add amenities and accessorize your private space with the furnishings of your liking.
