We just bought a new furnace but the company installed the wrong one. They are trying to talk us into keeping it but we're not sure if we should or if it's just oversized for our place.

We live in a townhouse that has units attached on either side and we're half built into a hill on the 4rd side. All quotes that we got recommended a 40,000 BTU furnace. The company that had financing that would work for us recommended a Carrier Infinity 96 that runs at 22,000/38,000 BTU but that model is 24" wide, which is too wide for the access that we have. So, they talked us into a 3 speed Carrier that operates at 22,000/37,000/57,000 BTU saying that it will never kick into the highest setting because of the size of our place (so it would function the same as the 40,000 BTU model) and it's only 17" wide so it will fit through our access.

When they installed it they installed the wrong one. The furnace that they installed is the two speed Carrier Infinity 96 60,000 BTU model. It operates at 38,000/58,000 BTU. They are trying to talk us into keeping it but we're not sure if this furnace will work properly in our place. Any advice would be appreciated,

I would ask for the one that you were quoted if you only need 40,000 btu!
