Default Helping pachysandra

Maybe i'm just hoping to be lazy, but I was wondering if Pachysandra benefits from a winter cover of dead leaves from the trees. We get a lot of oak & maple leaves on the ground in the fall, and if I left them on the ground around my new pachysandra plantings, would that protect them from the elements or would it be better to rake out the bed and let the plants tough it out??
