Certainly a huge monster, even for a white sturgeon. I understand in some areas, anything over 6' long has to be put back.

I hooked one (not a white), but about 5' long while fishing in a river for other smaller bottom feeders. I was fishing from shore with 20# line and it took the bait, made the common one jump and headed out. It was like submarine and never stopped or slowed down until it pulled the spool of my reel out and removed guides on the rod. It was possibly my best fishing experience even though I never landed it.

The smaller (3' -4' or so) sturgeon are good to catch. If you can keep one legally, they can be great smoked, but they are very rich and a little goes a long way.

It would have been great to have a big white on the line even if it was never brought in and released.

I think they are all tag and release in the Fraser River. At one time you could keep anything over 39".

Holy crap. I think i would be a little too scared to do that.
