Who hired the home inspector and who selected the contractor? I assume you did.

Sometimes, having "grounded" expectations does little good unless they are conveyed to the person doing the work and in the contract.

If the performance does not meet your contract requirements, get rid of him. - You may have to be an obnoxious dirt digger with a camera to kick him off. If you agree and allow him to finish and not pay, you better be well armed.

He said it was expensive.

As far as the attitude, he has an overabundance amount of patience for BS and at times gets gets walked over.
