I just bought a 85 year old house in PA that is in need of some serious updating. We bought the location and mechanicals, and need to do some serious DIY before moving in in June.
There is a lot of wood paneling throughout the house, especially the bathrooms. Some of it is the wider plank stuff that I would prefer to just take down, but I don't know the condition of the wall/plaster behind it. Is this something that is worth tackling immediately or should we just paint over it.
The paneling in the bathrooms really bug me, as I would like to put tiling in on the floors and repaint the the cast iron tub. The tub looks to be in good condition - would it be possible to just repaint the brown a new color, or does it have to be sanded down first?
I'm attaching a few pictures. Would love to get input on how to best proceed. Also if any of you have a sense for what it would cost to have pros do a lot of the work, I would love to hear estimates...
