Default Primer w/ texture...

Is it all right to add primer to the joint compound before putting it in the hopper? I'm covering up wall paper and the '70s wood paneling in manufactured homes

I myself have never heard of doing this. My biggest concern would be the ability for the texture to bind to the wall properly.

I have heard of it being done but not sure if it requires specific primer or a required dry time. and if it will last.

Never done it but I know a drywall crew that put it in popcorn ceiling texture. Never saw a failure from it but I can guarantee nothing.
