We have noticed whenever we are running our dishwasher, or anything with hot water in our kitchen, that it sounds like a pipe making a popping/clicking sound. Our hot water tank is in the attic, so I image the pipes run down one of the walls in the kitchen. The popping sounds like it's coming from around the ceiling area where the pipe would come down the wall. Is this normal or anything to be worried about? Is there anything to prevent this popping sound? Thanks.

How old is the heater?
100 % sure it's not the heater it's self making the noise?
When's the last time anyone's drained some of the sediment out of the heater?
Should be done at least once a year, if not the sediment builds up on the bottom when it heats up it pops it loose making a popping noise.
It can also be a pipe clamp was to loose and as the pipe expands and contracts the pipe is moving in the clamp. Any noise is being amplified by the empty wall like a drum.

It very well could be just the expansion of the hot water pipes, as they pass through an opening which was drilled incorrectly. Often times you can insert a plastic sleeve where the pipes pass which quiets the noise.
