I recently had a storage area over my garage converted to a finished room. The contractor notified me that the garage ceiling was sagging and he needed to put in an additional supporting beam and bolt it to the ones currently there. He put 2jacks in the garage and installed the dormer and completed the entire room before installing the beam. Now the walls are cracking in the new room. He said he had it jacked up 1-2inches higher than he needed it to be. He has told me to put silicone caulk in the wall cracks. Can anyone give any thoughts on this situation ?

We have no pictures.
No one knows exactly what he did or how he did it without more info.
No clue why anyone would "raise it 1-1/2" more then it needed to be".
What's the spans?
How wide are the joist and how far apart are they?
No permits and inspections?
