For the last 5 years I've wondered what this big PVC pipe was on the side of my house. I've wondered, but since I belong to the Leave Well Enough Alone Club, I've never investigated. Then today I uncover the same size pipe under my pool deck bar (hidden under a base cabinet). It is filled with water and it is about 6ft from the pipe on the outside of the wall. Anybody have any thoughts?

Could be what is called a street trap vent for your waste lines....I would just leave it well enough alone..
It may have nothing to do with the other pipe you found.
Thats My best guess.. and usually what it is.:hide:

Street Trap Vent! And now I know.

So now I just need to determine what the other floor level pipe is on the pool deck. I'm going to put pavers down and the big question is what that hole in the ground is connected to and can I cover it?

Stick a pole or snake down it and see how deep it goes or if it takes a turn.
It could have been a mounting hole some other item.

a p-trap....should only have water 3--5'' deep. if water is deeper than that, it is not a p-trap

but water trapped..send a cable down and see how far it will go

then, a hose, turn it on..see if water bubbles up in the yard somewhere..it could be a daylighted drain

or it could go to a small dry well.

i would dig up the pipe next to the house and have a looky see
