Hi all!

In my basement, under the main part of my home is almost a perfect rectangle; the one exception is a part right under/behind the front door where the wall is built out a bit - see photo; any idea why a builder might have built the basement this way?

Usually that wall is directly under the door so any front porch is not over the basement. If that is not the case, there may be a few reasons. One might be that 3 ply floor joist beam londing on it. There must be some weight landing there and maybe the span was to great for that.

Can you post a photo of the front door way from outside?

Disregard the ugly front door - we just replaced it.

Here is the front porch - thanks!

To answer your question. The basement wall juts in to support the outside shape of the house. And also to address Neals point the steps and the porch / landing is outside the house not inside.

Thanks to everyone - it actually made sense to me when you asked about the front outside.

Thanks again!
