Remodeling my kitchen; we purchased some cabinets from Habitat For Humanity store. How high above the floor should the upper cabinets be installed? My over-the-range-hood/microwave was originally installed way too low. You couldn't even get a tall pot on the stove. The microwave/range hood is a fairly large GE model, and is taller than most. How high should the bottom of the range hood be above the stove? :help: Thanks!

In planning a kitchen the general rule, as well as appliance mfg. recommendation is to have the venting appliance 29" above the cooking surface.

With fuel gas fired appliances, venting to the mfg. recommendation is a good idea, IE.,
you wouldn't vent a 90,000 BTU HOBB with your 300CFM, MV/Vent.

So, cabinets are fairly easily amended, you have the ability because of your cabinet purchase to select the height that serves your use.

18" above the finished counter is a general standard.

When setting cabinets, installers set the uppers 1st and they are set 54" above the "finished" floor
