I had some dead plants and from removing the dead plant material and simply dumping out the pot, I have amassed half a garbage can of old potting soil.

Once the plant died, I let the soil go dry.

Can it be used for potted plants anymore?

If not, is it ok to just dump it in the garden outside when winter is over?

I save ours in 50# dog food bags. I dump a bag in the wheelbarrow and add some cow manure and dirt in the spring bust it all up with a hoe and mix it good and use it over. Most of the plants you buy potted are just in Peat moss. I never had a problem reusing it.
