Thanks to everyone who has answered my earlier questions.

I've noticed a couple places where there is a small gap in the corner of my drywall walls and also where the drywall wall connects to the ceiling. These gaps (about the width of a crack) are just a few inches long and are probably the result of settling.

Can I get away with just filling these gaps with spackle or joint compound?
 
caulk them, it will prove to be more flexible in case some settling reoccurs.
 
If there are gaps at the point where INTERIOR walls meet the ceiling, the problem may be something called "truss uplift".

Truss uplift is caused by the rafter parts of the truss swelling more than the ceiling joist part of the truss, and it causes the ceilings in houses to lift, resulting in a gap between the interior walls and the ceilings.

Google "Truss Uplift" and you should find plenty of web pages that explain it.
