Default Re-painting the deck

I would like to re-paint the deck. Is it necessary to strip and ultra-clean the wood before I apply a new coat or two?

How old is the deck and are you painting it or re-staining it?

I would re-stain it; it will come out so much better and last so much longer.

No you don't have to strip it but you do have to scrape any loose paint. Then clean it really good. If there is a sheen you want to dull it by sanding a little or the new paint might not bond too good. Make sure you use a paint designed for decks.
