Question about tiling a shower.

Alright I have a few questions after finishing almost all the other work on my property about tiling my shower. I am using 12x24 inch tiles, ceramic, and I am not sure how to start the layout.

Here is the first image showing the general layout of the shower and how big the tile is compared to the half wall. The tile is just a tad shorter than the half wall and I am not sure if I should space it off the wall and fill with a tiny piece at the end or if I should split the tile and have a grout line?

Here is the half wall with the tile next to it. Again I am not sure how to have the layout since the tile is as long as the half wall and I don't think running whole tile all the way down would look good.

This is the uneven curb. After watching lots of videos I realized I could have just used hardie board and painted some of the waterproof stuff over it but I instead made a curb out of some mesh and lime concrete mix. I was wondering if I could trim the curb back flush with the half wall next to it?

Finally I have a piece of trim running around the door frame that hits the half wall. I haven't actually put it in place yet but was curious what might be a way I could end the tile next to this piece? I really appreciate the help and any ideas are welcome.

So you think a whole tile down the half wall will look okay? Any ideas for the curb? Would trimming it back to be flush with the half wall workout alright?

you can get backer in 1/2 or 1/4 inch, would it be easier to just add to the thickness of the half wall to match the curb.

That is a possibility but it would put the backer board past the door jamb. I started trimming the curb back already so I'll have to save that idea for the future if I'm ever crazy enough to do a shower again.

No I don't, all the cuts are going to the corner of a wall. I also realized that adding a piece of hardieboard to the side wall was the best solution and a great idea so I was going to do that as well.

I would suggest that you cut the large tile piece into smaller pieces and place it randomly on the surface like a mosaic design.
But the one thing that I would like to ask is that why people intend to choose ceramic over porcelain when porcelain has more advantage over ceramic. I have read that porcelain is much more durable and water resistant than ceramic (http://www.avonlearenovations.com/blog/home-renovations/ceramic-versus-porcelain-tile-does-the-difference-matter-to-you/).
