Uses for Tube Sand

That was a new one to me to, there idea was to make the shape so it would fit inside the wheel wells of a pickup bed.
It's sand that comes in a tube instead of a normal bag.
I'd give it a try, as long as there's no large aggregate it should work.

It used to be beach sand but was repurposed.

Looks like it is only available in Ontario, no wonder most of us never heard of it. The comments at the HD link say people have used it for similar purposes.

QUIKRETE Tube Sand is for traction on icy and snowy surfaces. It can be used for vehicle weight and used in flood control to block water.

So it is sand that is not usable for anything else. My nephew bought land where the gov. had pumped river sand in a huge pile when dredging the river channel. He bagged and sold it for the same purpose.

It doesn't say so but I would check very carefully if it contains salt since it is for winter use.

It’s been around here for years. No salt just regular old sand. When it gets as cold as it does here salt stops working and they use sand on the roads or a mixtire of sand and salt they call anti skid. For years the plant I worked at made our own power from coal and we had mountains of fly ash. The townships would fight over taking it away and mixing it with salt. About the time we closed down the power plant due to regulations the fly ash was no longer allowed on the roads. Tube sand is great in a 2WD truck or RWD car. People use blocks and bricks and in a wreck they come flying. The sand is much safer. On my plow truck I have a weight bumper that adds 400 pounds and connects at the hitch. That’s the right way to do it with a 4WD as the weight is back as far as it will go and takes some of the plow weight off the front it also hangs low and gives stability.


Use it for anything you would use sand for. I just assumed everyone knew about tube sand except the OP.

I know about it, but just wasn't sure if I could use it for a walkway foundation.

OP here..

I ended up needing sand for the landscaping ties I installed. This sand worked well for it.
